The Ending Writes Itself

"A clever idea that loses its way."
What started out as a promising idea with some interesting characters lost its way at some point and descended into a fairly implausible farce with too many inconsistencies and plot holes for my liking. Perhaps I am being picky but I found myself rubbing up against the story rather than immersing myself into it.
The book revolves around the death of a superstar author who has inconveniently died before completing the book in a hugely successful series. In order to fix the situation, his agent and publishers concoct a plan to invite a bunch of mid-list authors to the a remote island (where the deceased used to live) to compete in a writing competition to be the ones to complete the final book. The winning prize includes cash and a book deal, which all of the chosen contestants are desperate for.
There is nothing wrong with the premise but the story is so full of holes that it was quite frustrating. No spoilers here but I also thought the ending was a real anti climax and renders the rest of the book obsolete. It’s a shame, I enjoyed maybe the first 50% before it started to unravel for me.
