"Murder, with twists and turns, all from the therapists couch."
I have been waiting to dive into the books of Freida McFadden for a while now and this one was on my to be read pile for a time before making it to the top.
The story centres around a newly wedded couple who are trapped by a snowstorm while visiting a prospective new home. The story is told across two view points, Tricia, the newly wed, and psychiatrist Dr Adrienne Hale. The house belongs to the Dr who mysteriously disappeared 3 years before.
Tricia begins to find hidden truths about the house, about the Dr and about her husband as the story progresses. The atmosphere is very tense and quite claustrophobic, given the scope of the story.
I must admit I didn't predict the twist (or twists) towards the end of the book, they were good and very unexpected. But sadly they are the reason I gave this a 3 star rating, otherwise it would have been a 2. For such a renowned and lauded author I found the book quite poorly written and procedural. The swooning newly wed, the big strong husband, the enigmatic Dr and a house of secrets. It felt very cliche and slightly clunky.
All that said, I got through it in just a few days, it was an enjoyable, if slightly route one, tale.
