"A bold and ambitious concept that has a few issues."

This is a difficult one for me to review, while I was reading the book I found myself swinging wildly from loving it to struggling to keep going, hence the three-star review.

The book tells the story of two super soldiers on opposite sides of a war that spans space, time and alternate realities (or more accurately, timelines). The two adversaries are locked in a battle with each other and start to leave each other notes and letters, secretly hidden for the other to discover. The exact nature of the protagonists is a bit sketchy but one side (Red) is a kind of robot like machine. Whereas the other side (Blue) is an organic, plant like life form. As the story unfolds their letters become more and more personal, delving deeper into themselves and revealing their inner feelings. Both Red and Blue must hide their communications and their growing feelings for the other in order to prevent punishment from their own superiors.

I do admire bold ambition in a book and this one is certainly very bold. It is a very short book and the amount of word building and character development squeezed into so few pages is impressive. However, there were times where I really struggled to comprehend and keep up with what I was reading. It was almost a stream of consciousness from the character that was hard to process. But there were parts that I really enjoyed and the concept itself was amazing.
